you know... as i said, i have been listenin to 70 4 a while, and i think, though i am a man, I am a big women's rights proponent, that that might be why i, sub-conciously passed over this song, because of the masogeonistic title. i love thinking about my own subconcious. it works in freaky and mysterious ways... but now i am hijaking my own thread! lol ADD

Indeedee--not misogynistic--despite everything a man can do, it wouldn't be nothing without a woman or a girl . . . .

Pig wasn't really the pig some think he was. He was just a tad rowdy. Now, Bobby on the other hand--Money, money, I need a miracle, whew!

what's wrong with those tunes? with the exception of the womens lib line I don't find anything wrong with either of those tunes. WTF should they sing? I am women hear me roar? Kind of along the same lines - Women are Smarter - I used to know women who absolutely loved that tune so that implies they get off on their power? Because that tune is fairly right on. Oh, and lets not let Jerry off the Hook either - Loose Loosy?

As for Pig, he may have been a teddy bear but suggesting you just " roll on over" and screw whoever is there is fairly demeaning I think. Free love? How many people got burned on that farce?

Didn't mean to rattle any p.c. cages. No one on the g.d. family is going to win any awards for stand up dude of the year. Look at the way Jerry handled his relationships, Bobby's groupie thing--all of them. Uh--the whole hippie thing is a contradiction in terms.

Pig--just a gruff growler, but a gentle man. Take my word for it (or don't.).

no cage rattled here - I personally don't have any problems with the tunes most regard as sexist ( Money Money, Miracle ), I find them to be funny.

Nor do I disagree with what you say about pig, I've heard the same mentioned lots of times. My ONLY point was that Weir gets all of the rap for being " sexist" when there was plenty to go around.

I'm sorry but anyone - man or women - who claim to be 100% without predjudice in SOME degree for something is a liar or kidding themselves.

I agree:

My jab at the Bobster is tongue in cheek, as is "Money, Money."

Truth is that as a card carrying all but charter member of the "hippie" generation, the hypocrisy is pretty amazing. "Chicks"? "Wanna fuck"? Sexual liberation is one thing: disrespect is another. The hippie "ethos" and the hippie "reality" straddled that line. yes, there is that yin/yang earth mother thing--love of woman, work of man--but that ideology is pretty narrow visioned when it comes right down to it. But that worked well for all concerned, and I do not mean to pass any judgment here.

Who among us has never spoken with a forked tongue?

Frankly, none of the members of the G.D. are/were or ever pretended to be saints or boy scouts. And that was/is not their responsibility. Jerry never wanted to be a role model. he just wanted you to hear him play that guitar. That's his legacy; the rest just shows that he is a human just like the rest of us--good and bad.

That's why Bob is going to hell in a bucket; and I look forward to seeing them all there in the sweet bye and bye!

Succinctly put as usual Bill...like the rest of us, they have feet of clay but they never pretended otherwise...I think Jerry believed that all leaders are basically manipulators and he steered clear...but being a natural born leader, it must have caused some inner conflict...along with the rest of his inner demons. I guess many theses have been written on the morals, ethics and responsibilities of being a public figure but they let their music do their talking though I'm sure much has also been written about the writer's horror of his words being taken literally.

Some folks trust to reason others trust to might,
I don't trust to nothin', but I know it comes out right.

Say it once again now, Whoa, I hope you'll understand
When it's done and over, Lord, a man is just a man.

Some folks look for answers others look for fights,
Some folks up in treetops just looking for their kites.

Whoa, I can tell your future just look what's in your hand,
But I can't stop for nothin' I'm just playing in the band.

Standin' on a tower world at my command
You just keep a turnin' while I'm playing in the band.

And if a man among you got no sin upon his hand
Let him cast a stone at me for playing in the band.

Playin', playin' in the band. Daybreak, daybreak on the land.

I have, great tune. It's got this brilliant double edged sword thing going for it. My favorite line " ever since the world began women been mending the ways of man" TRUE TRUE! Hell, in keeping context with womens rights here's an intersting thing that proves the point. One of THE main reasons the womens suffrage movement was successful was because many women who ordinarily didn't have any burning urdge to vote or desire to change their societal role sure had a burning desire to have alchohol banned. Hence going hand in hand with prohibition.
